You might ask yourself: Am I the right person for the job?

1. Do I need a background in care to get into the sector?
You don’t- you will receive all the training you need to become a confident and competent support worker during your onboarding and first few months on the job. Plus, you will have lots of opportunities to increase your skills and knowledge as you go- we provide training opportunities that go above and beyond mandatory training.

2. Is it all about personal care?
Personal care (bathing, assistance with dressing and toileting) is only part of what we do! Apart from the physical aspect of the job, your role will be to look at a bigger picture when you are supporting people. Our aim is to provide a service that makes peoples’ life safer and easier on a day-to-day basis, by being proactive and liaising with other healthcare professionals involved in their care. You will be monitoring people you care for and report any concerns around their physical and mental wellbeing. But most of all, you will be the rainbow in someone’s life. We cannot underestimate the importance and power of your smile and caring heart you will share with the people that you will be visiting.

3. Is working in care worth-while?
Payment: It’s true that the care sector suffers from underpayment, but it’s important to note that you’ll earn more than people think. At Accolade, we appreciate each and every person, and we reward our employees, recognising the positive impact they have on the clients they support, which in turn has a positive impact on the company as a whole. Our hourly rate is £12.10 Mon-Fri, £14 Sat- Sun, and £20 Bank Holiday. You will also have paid annual leave and will benefit from various rewards as a thank you being part of our A-Team. Please see full details when you go to ‘Vacancies and Online Application’ page.
Flexibility: You will be able to choose your preferred working pattern to suit your personal or family commitments. However, we are upfront and make everyone who joins our team aware that people do not only need care from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and whatever work pattern you choose, you will need to contribute in some way to every other weekend support.
Career: There’s lots of options for growth within the care sector. Some people may want to decide to become a nurse. Others want to progress within the care sector by undertaking and completing professional qualifications in management and leadership, and progress in their role to a Senior Support Worker, Care Co-ordinator, or Care Manager. Accolade is a growing company and encourages its employees to grow with it- QCF training and other training opportunities are offered throughout the year. You really can have a satisfying and well-paid career in the care sector- like with anything else, it only is up to you what you want to do and commit to!
